Placeholders

A placeholder is a {{double-brace}} token that Delta replaces with live data at render time. Write {{title}} in a template and every entry shows its own title. Unknown placeholders fail silently. They render as nothing and never break a page.

Entry data

Available wherever an entry is in scope: single templates, loop items, and per-entry Delta HTML.

Placeholder Output
{{title}} · {{slug}} · {{permalink}} The entry’s title, slug, and URL.
{{excerpt}} · {{content}} The excerpt; the full native content.
{{date}} · {{date_iso}} · {{date_modified}} · {{date_modified_iso}} Publish and modified dates, formatted or ISO.
{{author}} · {{author_url}} · {{author_bio}} · {{author_avatar}} · {{author_avatar_url}} Author name, archive URL, bio, and avatar.
{{featured_image}} · {{featured_image_url}} · {{featured_image_alt}} The featured image as an img tag, as a bare URL, or its alt text.
{{word_count}} · {{read_time}} · {{read_time_minutes}} Length and reading time.
{{post_type}} · {{post_id}} · {{comment_count}} · {{is_sticky}} Entry metadata.

Site and navigation

Available everywhere, including headers and footers.

Placeholder Output
{{site_name}} · {{home_url}} · {{year}} Site title, home URL, current year.
{{site_logo}} · {{site_logo_url}} The site logo as an image, or its URL.
{{primary_nav}} · {{footer_nav}} The two registered menu locations, rendered as lists with the delta-nav class.
{{menu:slug}} · {{nav:location}} Any menu by slug, or any location by name.
{{icon:pack/icon}} An installed icon.

{{query_type}} · {{search_query}} The kind of archive; the visitor’s search terms.

Field maps turn custom fields into placeholders of your own. Loops repeat markup over entries with {{#…}} blocks. {{include:slug}} embeds one template inside another, and {{contact_form:…}} embeds a form from a supported plugin.
